The Jane Payne circle of the Vestal United Methodist Church is an open, friendly, and dedicated group of diverse of women, working and retired, who have many interests. We join together for missions and fellowship every other month, generally on the 3rd Monday at 7:00 pm, at the church, member’s homes, or local venues.
We share leadership, and we focus on service projects such as Haiti school kits, Food Pantries, and an Intensive Independent Living Program. We also help with the VUMC UMW Rummage Sale and other unit programs and have occasional guest presentations, recently on the Foodbank of the Southern Tier backpack program and the K.I.ND. (Kids in Need of Diapers) Project of Owego.
Our circle is named for Jane Elizabeth Payne, Ph.D. (1936-2020), who was a United Methodist Educational Missionary to Japan. Jane later served several United Methodist churches in the Indiana Southern Conference, while taking courses at United Theological Seminary. She is inspiring for her missionary spirit. She supported cross-cultural exchanges and sharing, and she was a vocal advocate for the poor and for her own health care needs in her later years. To learn more about Jane click the button below.
